What age can my child start seeing a pediatric dentist?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first visit by age one, or within six months of the first tooth coming in. At our Fredericksburg office, our pediatric dental specialists see patients from infancy through the teen years, focusing on early prevention, healthy development, and building comfort with dental visits from the start. If your child hasn't had a first visit yet, there's no need to wait for a problem to arise; earlier visits are shorter and simpler, and they help set the tone for a lifetime of positive dental experiences.
Does the Fredericksburg location offer in-office general anesthesia?
Yes — our Fredericksburg office provides in-office general anesthesia, so most patients don't need to be referred to a hospital or outside surgical center. This is available for children, adults, and patients with special healthcare needs who aren't able to comfortably complete treatment while awake. Care is delivered in the same familiar office by a team experienced in anesthesia for dental procedures, which means less disruption for your family and continuity with the same providers throughout treatment.
How do you accommodate patients with autism, sensory sensitivities, or dental anxiety?
Our Fredericksburg team regularly works with patients who have autism, sensory sensitivities, or significant dental anxiety, and we adjust our approach individually rather than using a one-size-fits-all process. That can include extra time to acclimate to the office, modified sensory input during exams, clear step-by-step communication before any procedure, and — when appropriate — in-office general anesthesia as an alternative to an awake appointment. Many of our long-term patients came to us specifically because a prior dental experience elsewhere didn't work for their needs, and our staff are experienced in the patience this kind of care requires.
What should I expect at my child's first appointment?
Your child's first visit starts with a relaxed introduction to the office and team before any exam begins — the goal is comfort first, treatment second. Your appointment includes a gentle oral exam, a discussion of your child's oral development and any concerns you have, and guidance on at-home care like brushing, flossing, and diet. We'll also walk through what to expect at future visits so there aren't surprises. Parents are welcome throughout the visit, and our team will explain each step before it happens so your child knows what's coming next.
What insurance do you accept, and what if I don't have insurance?
Our Fredericksburg office works with a range of dental insurance plans, and our patient care coordinators can verify your specific benefits before your appointment — just call (540) 786-0696 or bring your insurance information to your visit. If you don't have dental insurance, our team can walk you through available payment options so that cost doesn't stand between you and the care you need. I'd give them 20+ stars if I could! I absolutely appreciate the staff, their kindness and patience with my family. We have 2 sons on the spectrum, 1 is non-verbal and the team that works with him have the patience of God. They're thorough and comforting. Only our 3 kids have been going there for yrs but my husband and I will transfer over at the beginning of the year. Highly recommend especially if you or your loved one has disabilities

My five year-old had to get some dental work done, and the staff was so amazing with her! She was very nervous, but they had her laughing and excited by the time it was time to go back. Dr Campbell and his staff go above and beyond for their clientele. They not only care about your dental health, but they care about your whole person and your family . April is an attentive, conscientious hygienist who not only cleans your teeth thoroughly, but gives me tips and advice for daily care that is easy and manageable. Dr. Shetty and the hygienist Maggie were absolutely incredible. They made Kash and myself feel completely comfortable and calm the entire visit. The office was spotless, inviting, and the whole team was both efficient and thorough. Maggie was an absolute doll, and Dr. Shetty was just as amazing.
